Le documents est une émisson télé sur la chaine MSNBC qui a pour thème « the

project 1619 ». Le présentateur commence par expliquer que 400 ans auparavant

en 1619 ou sont arrivés pour la première fois en Amérique des esclaves africains

dans la colonie anglaise de « Jamestow ».

Il accueil ensuite deux invités, des journalistes : Nicole Hanna Jones une

correspondante du New York times magazine qui a écrit un texte intitulé « our

democracy's founding ideals were false when they were written. Black america

have fought to make them true. » Et Treemain Lee un correspondant de MSNBC,

avec son texte sur l'écart de richesse qui sépare l'amérique blanche et noire. Le

texte de Nicole Hanna Jones dit que l'Amérique n'était pas une démocratie avant

que l'Amérique noire ne la transforme en une. Son argument repose sur deux

points le premier est que l'amérique est un pays basé sur une idée et un mensonge.

Les pères fondateurs disaient trouver un pays de droits individuel mais derrière

tenait un cinquième de la population en esclavage et ces personnes ne

bénéficieraient donc pas de ces droits.

La fonction de ce document est d'informer et dénoncer l'esclavage et ses

conséquence sur la société d'aujourd'hui.

Slavery was a denial of basic human rights because the universal nature of the

principles of human dignity, freedom, and equality wasn't respected. Like it is show in the first text it was not considere normal and even not good that a

« nigger » be freely educated and speak like a « white person » it could lead them

into problems. At the time it was the norme that black people weren't regarded as

person but as objet that white people own and the ones who question that racist

world view : ‘Why should either of those things matter to him? I don’t belong to

him.’ was generaly killed.

To overcome this horror was in one hand difficult because slavery perverts all

aspects of human activity. Established as a system of thought, illustrated in all

manner of philosophical and artistic works, this outlook has been the basis for

political, economic and social practices of a global scope and with global
