Myths and Heroes

I’m going to talk about the thematic “Myths and Heroes”. First, a hero is a person who is admired for his/her achievements; it could be a mythological figure, a superhero, or a women. We can ask ourselves how women marked the English history? To illustrate this problematic we will study two periods; how the queens ruled England and the swinging sixties.

First, we listened “Elizabeth I, the Armada Portrait”. This portrait commemorates the high point of the Elizabeth’s reign, the debate of the Armada in 1588. Her clothes convery an impression of power and authority, we can deduce that Elizabeth aka “The Virgin Queen” was respected.

Then, we will study the portrait “Elizabeth, the Golden Age”. She appears like goodness. So everyone kneels before her. She isn’t human anymore; she has decided to devote her life to England, in spite of the personal life. That’s why the Queen was so important for the English.

Also, we talk about the video from “British Pathé” of Mary Quant. She is an iconic figure: she set a new trend with the mini skirts and marked a turning point in the history of fashion by giving a new fresh look to anew women generation.

Finally, we have made a debate of “No surrender”. Rita O’Grady, the leader of the underpaid women, wanted the equal ray, and Barbara Castel, the secretary of state for employment, is trying to calm her down. Both are figure of the fight of the women to have the equal pay.

All this documents illustrate them “women in control”. Here the women are an objet of extern admiration for what they did for the society and for the women image.
