We're going to present you a cartoon about Prohibition in America and enforcements.

We do not have the name of the author or the date of its publication but we can imagine that this image was designed in 1920 during the prohibition in America to make fun of the government and their laws.

We can see 2 characters, one on the left and one on right. We can see a cat on the middle of the picture. I thing the cat is the main character because he is in the middle. I thing the scene takes place in 1920 because it was during the prohibition. This cartoon is divided into three parts with the cat, whit the left character and with the right character. The viewer’s attention is drawn to the cat because the cat twinkles.

The figure on the left represents the department of justice and the person on the right can represent the treasury department. These are only hypotheses thanks to the papers arranged in front of them. The cat meanwhile is in the middle of the picture and represents prohibition enforcement. The treasury department give the cat to the justice department. The cat sparkles because he shouts as you can see he has his mouth open. The treasury department announces in the department of justice the following sentence: "it's your brother and you're welcome to it." but the department of justice seems troubled.

We can suppose that the author wants to show stupidity of the enforcement of prohibition. The cartoonist’s goal is probably to highlight the cost of reinforcement of the prohibition because the cat is very big which shows the cost and the damage of the ban.

I think this cartoon brilliantly illustrates the coast of the prohibition because the cat is very big and the cartoonist is talented because there are a lot of humor and the cartoon is ironic with the prohibition. The cartoonist show that the governement wasn’t prepare to the prohibition and to the anti prohibition so they haven’t prepare lot of money to enforce the prohibition.
