This image is an advertisement for the brand Volswagen. Indeed, we can see under the picture, in the bottom left hand corner, there is the slogan of the advert : “The all-new Jetta, you’ll do anything to drive it”. This time on the bottom right hand corner, there is the logo of the brand. On the left, there is the biggest element in the picture : we can see a car. Thanks to its licence plate, we know that it is the Jetta, which is grey and urban. In the middle, we can understand there is Santa Claus with his famous red costume, his hat and his really white beard. On the right, we can see Santa’s sleigh and his reindeer. In it, there’s a sign with “for sale” non it. Finally on the ground, we can see some snow.

The advertiser wants people to buy this new car by using Santa Claus. It is here about showing that even Santa would like this car. This advert is funny and humouristic because Santa is ready to sell his magic sleigh and to abandon his poor reindeer to get a car. As a consequence, we understand this car must be wonderful and amazing.

The background is completely white to create a visual contrast with the grey and red colours. So, it makes the car and Santa stand out. The use of the white colour reminds us of snow and winter time, the red reminds us Christmas time and warmth and finally the grey colour reminds us all the simple things car and industry in general.

The biggest element, thus the car, is the most important in the picture and is on the left because it is the first thing our eyes will be attracted to.

The perspective creates a diagonal which shows the superiority of the car over the sleigh which becomes the smallest element.

In my view, this advertisement is pretty attractive, particularly thanks to the choice of colours, and then rather efficient. To me, I really appreciate the Santa’s idea because the message that the advertiser wants to communicate to us is directly understandable. Indeed, the goal of this picture is clear and pretty simple so anybody could get it. As far as I’m concerned, this ad is a funny ad, therefore it makes it stand out from other ads. I think there is no point of doing something really complicated if the most simple thing works as well as the most difficult.
