That is a quotation of David Barton, member of the Republican committee, describes the position of Donald Trump political program in august 2017. The Republican party is one of the 2 majors parties which composed the political scene in the USA. It is opposed of the Democratic party, which is more liberalism.

What are the positions of this traditional party?

We will see firstly in an economic point of view, and then in a political one. In addition, we will see in a social term.

  1. Presentation of this party

  1. Name and symbols
  • The symbols of the Republican Party, commonly referred to as the GOP (abbreviation for Grand Old Party) are the elephant (humility, courage and strength), and the red colour.
  • The Republican Party's current ideology is American the conservatism.
  1. Electoral history

The party has won 24 of the last 40 US presidential elections and there has been a total of 19 Republican presidents, the most from any one party.

As of 2017, the Republican Party was at its strongest position politically since 1928.

It controls majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

More famous presidents (for them political positions):

  • Warren Harding (1921-1923) with his stance “America first”, just after the “14 points program” of the President Wilson
  • Donald Reagan (1981-1989) for his dereglementation program, and the struggle against communism
  • Donald Trump (from the 20th January 2017) for his ultra-conservatism program

  1. Economical positions
  1. Economical principles

Republican party leaders strongly believe that free markets (without any intervention of the government) and individual achievement (free enterprise – private sector) are the primary factors behind economic prosperity.

  1. Ideological way

They are for the liberalism economic, and they prefer the development of bilateral agreements instead of international agreements. For example, Trump has disengaged the USA of the TPP, between them and Asia.

  1. Fiscal point of view

They supported the conservatism: they agree with a control gestation, without any public deficit, and with some moderate taxes, for everyone, including the richest people.

As far Donald Reagan has done, the republican ideology is for deregulation: the market doesn’t need too much rules, fences and restrictions to work. For instance, Donald Reagan, with the help or Margaret Thatcher during the 80’ years, they have totally deregulated the financial markets.

  1. Political positions

  1. Immigration

Republicans support a position focused on securing the border and deporting illegal immigrants (supported by populists).

In 2016 the field of candidates took a sharp position against illegal immigration, with leading candidate Donald Trump proposing building a wall along the southern border with Mexico and using tariffs on goods imported from Mexico to pay for construction.

  1. Foreign policy and national defense

Some in the Republican Party support unilateralism on issues of national security. For example, after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Bush administration supported neoconservative policies: they decided themselves of the invasion, in 2001 in Afghanistan and in 2003 in Iraq.
