Notion Myths and Heroes
I’m going to talk about the notion of myths and heroes. To begin with, I’d like to give a definition of myths. A myth is a traditional story, a sacred story, related to the culture and history of a country. That tells a past event which may or may not true. Most of the time, the myth is represented by a hero. A person is a hero by its acts. It’s an example for every body and he has an ideal conduct. He fights for a good cause and he is generally strong, virtuous and brave. The theme which best illustrates the notion is the American Dream. The American Dream is the idea that if you work really hard, you’ll be able to succeed, regardless of your social background. We may wonder to what are the representatives of the American Dream. To answer this problem I’m going to use a text on the life of Oprah Winfrey and a poster for the presidential election of Barack Obama.
Barack Obama was the first American afro president of the United States. The people who had suffered from racism saw in him a hope of change. In spite of a torn childhood he became a president. He was raised by his mother and his grandparents in a poor country. But it didn’t prevent him from working hard and from integrating the most prestigious of the American universities, Harvard. His dream became reality and he thinks that everybody can follow his steps. For him, if you work hard, your dream can become a reality. That’s why; he wants all the students go to university and so to give them a chance to succeed. This is for all the reasons that the author of the poster of the Obama campaign writes Obama is the American dream.
During his campaign, Barack Obama was supported by Oprah Winfrey an African American woman. As Barack, she was born in a poor country and became rich and famous thanks to her determination. In spite of a difficult childhood where she suffered sexual violence, before she worked hard to get to this point where she is today. She succeeded in a men’s professional world by having her own TV show, she owns a website, a radio station and played in a Spielberg’s movie. This black woman became a rich millionaire at only 30 years. She is the only black woman among the richest 400 Americans.
In conclusion, we can see by their career that Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey worked really hard, they made a success their life and regardless of their social background. So we can say they represent the American dream.
