Spaces and exchanges

 

        I'm going to talk to you about my first notion : spaces and exchanges. First of all I’ll give you it's definition : space is geographical or symbolic area and exchanges is act of giving and receiving in return. It deals with the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. In our global era, different cultural, sociological and language interactions have shaped our modern life. We will then ask ourselves what were the different immigration waves to America and how have they shaped the American society ?

        

        First, we ill see the reasons of immigration, then the consequences of US society.

1 Reason of immigration

- If there is a reason why immigrants have decided to leave their country of origin for America, it's that for obtaining a better life.

-The American dream brings together several great ideas. They are the power to make a fortune though work and merit, no matter who, as long as they are American citizens.

Succeeding from nothing is the main motivation of many immigrants. It's not just this one.

Another : freedom, including worship. Many immigrants went to America because of their persecutions in their home country because og their religion or ideologies. Thus , one could even qualify this American dream as , in fact, the search for happiness.

There is different waves :

Since 1820 (eighteen twenty), the United States has welcomed 70 millions immigrants.

There is, however, a rejection of some immigrants. The sorting of foreigners is symbolized by Ellis Island at the end of the 19th century.

2 Consequences of US society

Nowadays this number is an about 27 (seventy) millions.

About 50 (fifty) % (percent) of Hispanics in the United States are from Mexico. The rest comes from various other countries such as El Salvador, Colombia, Dominican Republic, and 36 (thirty six) % of Hispanics from the United States reside in California.

-To prevent many language in America because of immigration in United States citizens ask a law proclaiming English as the official US language.

-The steady stream of people arriving on US shores has had a profound impact on the character of Americans.

- Immigrant also enrich American communities by bringing aspects of their culture of origin with them.

        Finally, we observed that immigrants leave their country for many reasons wether political or religious. They choose the United States because they hope for a better and successful life.
