DEVELOPEMENT :

So we going see is difficult begin in detroid

Sixto Rodriguez  studied in university for 10 years it was hard woker at begenoin of is career he tried to  imitate Bob Dylan who was a protest folk singer prominent in the Civil Rights . BUT he failed = he didn’t manage to succeed for exampel He released 2 albums  but nobody bought them. He had to work and  living as a builder   r he continued to play music for few people at local gigs  -he traveled around the world and share his income from his tour with his family or charity  he wanted to be elected mayor of Detroit but he failed he bought a house for people

WHAT HE WAS NOT KNOWING IS THAT HE BILD IS LEGEND IN SOUTH AFRICA

SR became a superstar. It was like a rebirth! Indeed, his album cold fact  was a success

When no new songs arrived in south africa  and with Rodriguez apparently having disappeared without a trace, the legend grew in South Africa that the musician had committed suicide on stage. Some said that he shot himself while others claimed that he set himself on fire, live on stage. Perhaps the conflicting reports should have alerted people that something was amiss. This extraordinary backstory occupies the first segment of Searching for Sugarman. Directed by Malik Bendjelloul, the new documentary describes how two of Rodriguez's South African fans – record-store owner Stephen Segerman and music journalist Craig Bartholomew– embarked on search to learn more about the singer. In 1998, they hit the jackpot when they received an email from Rodriguez's daughter, Eva, saying the singer was alive and well. A sell-out concert tour of South Africa was hastily arranged and the singer, completely oblivious to his fame, suddenly tasted success.

In addition to its success he became olso a icon for anti apartaid mouvement

South Africans were oppressed and cut-off from the rest of the world (the government controlled the news). It was a closed-door situation. SOUTH aFRICA is compared to Nazi Germany and a military state

In South Africa in the mid-1970s, the anti-apartheid movement started : black and white South Africans fought together against the Establishment to bring down/end apartheid (with cultural and sports boycotts and protest/demonstrations).

SR’s songs gave permission to South African to protest and react against the ESTABLISHMENT / their society. They allowed them to free their minds and think differently. His songs shared the same ideas/ideology that South Africans needed. -His songs were the “anthems” of thii movement

It why The authorities banned his music  he was censored by the government. His music was played on pirate.

Conclusion

So S'r the reson why S'R became a legent in south africa it tah is song cam in a difficult period in south africa and ca to bring the idea of freedom it became the icon of the anti aparteid movement he become a mythe when non more album came in south africa  the south africans create mythe around him it why sr is legend in south africa
