Myths and Heroes

Today, I am going to talk about the notion Myths and Heroes. First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion :  A myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe an icon. So we may wonder , how can an ordinary person make the world a better place and become a heroe ?

First, I will present how ordinary people can become heroes in our eyes. Then we will see what is the influence or impact of these people in our society.

First of all , some peoples may behave in a way that defines them as heroes. In our society , we can consider a person as a heroe someone who is admired for his courage, achievements, noble qualities or a person who has done an heroic act.

We can take as an exemple the firefighters. They risk their lives to save the life of others and sometimes voluntarily. So we can consider them as heroes because they go against the danger with a lot of courage to save people.

We can also talk about the doctors. They cure peoples who need help and, sometimes, who are in a danger of death so, in a way, they are also heroes.

So some people do a job that places them at the rank of hero.

Also, some unknown people act as heroes naturally like Spencer Stone, a former american soldier, who has prevented the attack of a train in France in 2015 by neutralizing a terrorist on board. For his heroic act, he received the legion of honor from France and l'airman's medal and the purple heart from the USA.

These normal people with heroes qualification can sometimes positively impact and influence our society.

Take the exemple of Rosa Parks, an african american woman, who fought against racial segregation  by refusing to obey at the discriminatory rules put in place.

this resistance will cause a rebellion movement against these laws like the bus boycott and it will lead to the abolition of the segregationist laws with Martin Luther King's help.

So, Rosa's struggle helped change society and make it better.

We can also talk about Simone Veil. She is considered as the icon of the fight against discrimination of women in France because thanks to her, the law decriminalizing abortion was adopted .

These heroes thus allow in the end to feed the resistancialist myth.

But to make the world better, you do not have to do big things , you can for exemple  participate in a charitable work, give money for a cause, sing petitions, share your knowledge in searches, fight for ideas that consider you important.

To conclude, an ordinary person can do things that can help to make the world a better place with a lot of courage and motivation and many people have made history through their action and have changed it.

We can also link what I told you earlier with the concept of the idea of progress because the concept can be defined as an evolution or a technical change, scientific or social helping to make the world a better place. And heroes may be the cause of progress.
