Notion "Myth and Heroes"

So,we are going to speak about the notion of Myth and heroes. Firstly, I am going to give a definition of the notion so that it is more clear.

A hero can be a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. It can be the main character in a book or a film or a person with superhuman qualities. It can also be a modern-day hero, a person who has performed a heroic act or simply our own personal hero, our role model, who we look up to.

A myth is a story about gods or heroes that may or may not be true.These stories have a great symbolic power.

So we can wonder : How can average citizens become heroes in a particular situation when they oppose a whole society ?

To answer this question, we are going to study the period of the McCarthyism in the USA and show that scapegoats became real heroes !

So that heroes can be average citizens in particular situations. We can take the exemple of the two anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti and all the opponents of the « Red Scare » in the USA.

So first, what is the period of Red Scare ?After the world war two, in the United States, the government was feared by communist spy. So this is the period of red scare led by senator McCarthy. The American authority blacklist everybody who was suspected of being a communist or a sympathizers.

Consequently a lot of personalities was blacklisted in the Hollywood industries, like Charlie Chaplin who was forced to leave his country because he was said to have Communist sympathies.

We can see this « witch hunting » in the movie « One of the Hollywood ten » was written and directed by Karl Francis.This movie shows the anti-communist paranoia which reigns in the environment of Hollywood, we see there clearly the rise of the McCarthyism. As well as the ways, the strategies which shows the police to make speak « stool pigeons ». For example, they are threatened to lose their work or worse still threatened with death if they don’t denounce the communist drafts…How we were able to see it in the document " not you! " Which stages these strategies pervert. Sara ’s boyfriend sees himself grateful to give the name of her brother, if it doesn’t make it, he will lose his work so he does …

An other case we saw in class, was the famous affair Sacco and Vanzetti.This affair began in the years 20 after the World War I. The department of justice, labour and immigration initiated a campaign of oppression. Most of the victims were foreigners, usually Italian like Sacco and Vanzetti or Russians and jews.

The two targets very famous of the anti-radical campaign were Italian born (Sacco and Vanzetti) but they were residents in Boston for a long time, they were respectable workers and dedicated anarchists. But they arrested for armed robbery and murders which they forbid to have committed. Nevertheless, they will be judged all the same then executed for acts which they hadn’t committed.Their case became an international cause and made a lot spoken and allowed numerous claiming in order to putting an end to these arrests without real reason.

To conclude, we see good through this famous witch-hunt that numerous citizens became in a sense
