1ère Notion: Myths and heroes:

🡺 Intro:

The notion I’m going to deal with is myths and heroes. A myth is based on founding stories, is usually a popular belief or story that explains natural or social phenomenon and which often involves fabulous being or events. Every culture has its own myths. Moreover, all societies depend on heroic people who inspire people, a hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe a role model or an icon.

Ware going to ask if the American dream is still a reality?

To illustrate this notion, we’re going to talk first about the concept of the American Dream, then about the real heroes of society and history, and finally about the American Dream, a myth within reach.

In a first phase, I would like to emphasize that United States is an iconic country.

The American dream is seen as an accomplishment on the road to success.

A lot of people think that going to the United State will gave them opportunities to live the American dream. Michelle Obama says in her convention speech dated 2012 that : "Even if you don't start out with much, if you work hard and do what you are supposed to do, then you should be able to build a decent life for yourself and an even better life for your kids and grandkids". She takes the example of her own father, being a nice embodiment of the reaching of the American dream. He hard worked for his kids, with determination and ambition.

Moreover, she considers that his husband, Barack Obama is a perfect example of success of this myth because of his devotion, he was able to climb the social ladder to become president of the United States.

Further, the American dream is synonymous with material and social success.

In "Envisioning the American Dream": there is a depiction of a middle-class American family whose success is seen in the many material possessions they own, such as an inflatable pool, a barbecue, or a boat. There is, however, an equally important social aspect, because for Barack Obama success is not just about how much money we make, it's about the differences that we make in people’s lives. Just like a hero would.

Heroes are people who accomplished great actions and represent our fundamental values meaning courage, kindness, generosity and so on.

Since the beginning of mankind, some people or groups of people have distinguished themselves by their actions, their words or their qualities and are considered heroes in society and in people's minds. Those men dedicated themselves to others, and brought peace and justice to their land, so they were heroes, like Barack Obama, consider as a visionary man who can change the world.

First, there is a hero recognized by society because of his abnegation like fireman or policeman. Fireman and policeman help people all day when they are in danger, sometimes they risked their life and perished to save them.

Then there is hero who wants change the history as a defender of common values. For example, so many people fighted for freedom and equalities between Black and White like Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King, with his famous speech 'I have a dream" who incited to keep hope. All of them have an impact and modify our lives. They change or have changed the course of history and the actual society.
