At a time when our society is dominated by role model, I am going to talk about the concept of myths and heroes. First of all, I would like to give a definition of this notion. A myth is a fictitious story which narrate the foundations of a given community. These narratives can convey the ideals of this community and create or perpetuate inspiring heroic figures.

To illustrate this, I have chosen to focuse my thought on people's successful careers, that is to say peaople who started from scratch and reach the top of the social ladder. How can myths and heroes influence people's careers ?

First and foremost, one can't deny that society is based on founding myths, a collective identity forged arount common landmarks and shares values. People need role models, successful models, they are identified with them. Basically, personalities are often common peoples, for example the history of vince papale, and adapted to film by mark wahlberg. this is the story of a common man, he decided to succeed in football for realize his dream. On the cover it’s written : ‘ dreams are not lived on the sidelines’ , this sentence mean dreams must be realize , their place are not in the background. A myth or hero may have a cultural influence. In this category, we can talk about pictures p.17 , for example : Steve Jobs. He became a real hero in his time. He had an ordinary life story but he was a genius. He overcame a lot of hardships, he was as vulnerable as other people, for example he left school, fought to make his company work, he was fired and had a lot of health problems. Steve Jobs was an inventor; he improved and advanced the computer and the mobile phone industry. He can be considered a hero because to make the top he was a hard-worker, career-driven and strong-willed. Today he remains a role model, an example of success.

There are heroes who have a political influence. For example, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks had a very important role in the history of the USA.. Martin Luther King was an African American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement. He wanted equality for all, he fought against discrimination in the domains of suffrage, justice, education, and political representation. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man. She was subsequently arrested and taken to jail for her defiance. She was tired and sick of the segregation laws.

There are also world stars who make dream of thousands of young people around the world, such as Justin Bieber, who made his life a movie : ’never say never ‘, he start from scratch and became star, both had to work hard and may have had to renounce to some things in their daily lives, they must have to make sacrifices to make it to the top. Justin bieber embofird duchess in today’s society and he inspires lots of young singers.

nevertheless, even if you have been inspired by icons and role models you must bear in mind that sucess is not achieved by all. thaht is why it is so hard to match dreams with reality and jobs with pleasure.
