We want to talk to you about something .  We would like to take a gap year after high school before continuing our studies.

B:
A gap year? What would you do all that time?

T:
We wouldn’t just do nothing! I want to go in other countries for a few months to do volunteer work with an environmental organization. It would help me practice English, meet new people, learn about other cultures, and do something useful.

N:
And I want to work  to earn money and gain experience. I also want to take online class to help me decide what I want to study later.

B:
I understand, but I am skeptikal. First, if you stop studying now, you will lose the desire to study. Second, traveling or working in other countries costs money and needs planning. Third, it’s hard to go back to school after a break. And last, I’m think this fun year could just become an excuse to be lazy and do nothing .

T:
No! A gap year is actually a good opportunity. Many students do it today, and they come back more motivated and mature. It will also help me decide my future.

N:
And it will make us more independent. Managing money, traveling alone, working… all of this  responsibilities ! And we can earn part of the money ourselves. We’re not asking you to pay for everything.

T:
And  you say we would not want to study again, but look around: students who take a gap year often come back more motivated. It’s not a waste of time; it’s an investment in our future.

N:

 we need a break. After high school and all the stress, it will be good for us to have real-life experiences before going back to classes. You want us to be happy, right?

B:
Okay, I see you have really thought about this… I like that you want to be independent and useful. But I need some indication: I want a clear plan with dates, contacts, and a reasonable budget.

T:
We’ll prepare everything this weekend.

N:
Thank you ! You won’t regret it. It will be a really constructive year, we promise!

B:
