ENGLISH INTERNSHIP ESSAY

INTRODUCTION :

I started my internship with Darty on November 19th and finished it on January 19th 2012. I therefore participated in two important time periods for any company that sells products: New Year, Christmas holidays and clearance sales. Moreover, I have witnessed the difference of people’s shopping behavior during those periods, the preparation for them and what happens after. I got to conclude that during these holidays, consumers seem to have a stronger incentive to spend money than usual.

OUTLINE OF THE BACKGROUND OF THE BUSINESS OF THE COMPANY AND/OR THE DEPARTMENT IN WHICH YOU WORKED:

OBJECTIVES:

I had three goals when I started my internship.

I was lucky to work a few days in a custom jewelry store which allowed me to get a first experience and an initial contact with a variety of customers. However, I learned that the tactical approaches are not necessarily obvious and that they must be adapted to the person that is facing you. It all depends on how flexible you are. This is why I had, as a first objective, to learn to be competent with all kinds of customer.

My second objective does not apply to trade in general but particularly in the field I would be working in. It consisted in learning the indispensable foundations for the sale of the products that I would be selling which would be multimedia.

My third goal was to implement the course of sales and my commercial strategy (selling rate and commercial approach). Among other things, I had to learn to detect purchasing intentions in a customer and make them into decisions. I acquired this knowledge by observing the experienced sellers with whom I worked.

SUMMARIZE THE WORK PERFORMED :

 Welcome and assist customers with their purchase as far as I could help them.

 Advise clients according to what they can afford to spend and their expectations.

 Present products in a clear and precise way without giving an overly technical explanation.

 Check that the display is always nice to look at so that it draws the eye of the customer.

 Verify that the prices are always the good ones.

 Make the choice of a product and put it on display when another is sold out.

HIGHLIGHT SPECIFIC SKILLS LEARNED:

Through my internship I acquired different skills.

First, on the relationship level, I realized that working in a company required team work and a good atmosphere if we want to be efficient. This implies some self-control with one’s colleagues. In addition, this requires from us even more self-control with customers that we interact with. In addition you have to be helpful and not show that a task is bothering us. Always smiling is an essential thing because everything must be set up for the sale so that it may be a pleasurable experience for the customer.
