WELCOME TO QUEBEC

Sightseeing

There's so much to see in Quebec. You must visit a lot of museums like the naval meseum, the civilisation museum... There are a lot of parks and gardens too like battlefields parks, the Roger-Van den Hende Botanical garden... All is very beautiful and very interressant. Don't miss the Basilica-cathedral Notre-Dame built by Samuel de Champlain in 1663. The construction of this cathedral lasted approximately 350 years. You can admire too the falls of Montmorency which are 83 metre high. But you can't left to Quebec without seeing the Frontenac castle which makes the fame of the city. It is a restaurant-hotel built in 1892 by the Canadian railroad companies.

History

Here are a few important events in the history of the city.

1535: Jacques Cartier arrived by the Saint-Laurent river and settled on a bay which will later become Quebec.

1608: The city was oficiall built by Samuel de Champlain.

1608-1627;1632-1763: Quebec became the capital of the New-France.

2008: Quebec celabrated its 400 years.

Leisure activities

In Quebec, there are a lot of activities, sport, festivals... The summer festival includes a lot of singers and stars. This festival was created in 1968 by a group of artists and it lasts two weeks in Juily. In 2006, there was more than 900000 spectators. There is also the winter festival created in 1894 which possess a wide range of activities and in 2008, accumulated one million visitors. It is in fact a carnival wich is the biggest winter carnival of the world.

Location

Quebec is located in the west of Canada and it is very easy to get to. There is an international airport, 16km away from the city center. There are lots of highways for cars and buses to go to Montreal for example. There is also the train and subway for the city so taxis of course.

Accomodation

There are many hotels in Quebec but the best is the Frontenac castle place on the edge of Saint-Laurent river. But this hotel is rather expensive.
