Notion Spaces and Exchanges :

Today I’m going to talk about the notion of spaces and exchanges; first of all i would like to give a definition of this notion. This notion deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interaction between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces, the different cultural, economic, sociological and language interactions have shaped and characterized our modern-day world. To illustrate this, I have chosen four documents who deal with that show two different thoughts, within the most populated state in the world that is to say India. Therefore we may wonder to what extent India be considered a country between modernity and tradition?

To stand for this, I will talk about that India has become a nation of international stature but that nevertheless many inequalities remain within this population.

Since its independence on July 28 1949, India has not ceased to want to impose itself in world trade. In fact according to the oral comprehension studied in class the city of Bangalore has become the silicon valley of India which gathers software technology such as SDN, Microsoft Corporation or Information Systems Group. Moreover it is home to more than 4.5 million inhabitants. This many “brains” from all over the world come to Bangalore to find a job in order to exchange their knowledge and experiences which fits well with the notion of spaces and exchanges.

In addition, India has another advantage, as we could see in the interview of Ramesh an Indian journalist who did a report on Bollywood, which is actually Indian Hollywood in the city of Bombay

As result Bollywood is an influential Indian soft power in the world. On the one hand it is the leading films produces with an average profit of 350 million dollars a year and has more than 2 million employees in the film field.

On the other hand, these films are translated into English and Indian, which allows more than 2 billions people to be able to watch these films allows to make know the Indian culture and all that is well done, as well beyond its terrestrial borders which once again corresponds well to the studied notion.

However, although India is known worldwide for its technological renown, it is not known for the rights of its citizens, which are still too restricted.

Indeed after the departure of the British in 1947 the Indian elite put back in place the caste system of before colonization which distributes hierarchically the population as six castes.

After listening to the oral comprehension of the caste system, we were able to understand the drawbacks of this system, for example, the prohibition of inter-caste marriage, but also no access to the same rights and same professions even, to the exclusion of a part of the population within the society. As a result, women are excluded from society, presenting a weakness and their uselessness for the society. This is why the practice of arranged marriage is used but nevertheless denounced by some people such as Wilbur’s Love Marriage music.

Which through this music denounces the practices of arranged marriage but also the access to rights of Indian women, this music has been put on YouTube it has therefore been relayed and saw millions of times within the world. This shows once again the inter-world exchanges via networks and music, which shows the means that people can use to make themselves heard.

To sum up, we can understand that India is a globalized nation with global trade thanks to technology and its films, nevertheless many of the rights of Indian citizens are still too non-existent and the segregation of women is inadmissible from my point of view.

But since a few years, a movement is emerging to give hope to
