I’m going to talk about the notion of myths and heroes.

As an introduction, I will define the notion of myth: the myths are traditional stories relating fabulous events or figures/characters often considered as heroes. A hero is someone admired for great courage/bravery, major achievement, who inspires people and who is shown as an example.

Here, we will expose national heroes and their incidence on a country and the society: in a first time, we are going to see that national heroes are vectors of social cohesion. Then, in the second time, we will show how heroes help the world to be better.

Firstly, national heroes can enable the national cohesion: indeed they are powerful tools of social cohesion because with theirs actions they become icons or symbols representative of their states. One example is Neil Armstrong in America, who was the first man who walk on the moon in 1969 (nineteen sixty nine). This extraordinary and brave action was broadcasted everywhere creating a national cohesion in the middle of the cold war.

In general those heroes have a big influence on the society and are very famous, their name are associated with a cause or a political movement. For example, Always in America, Rosa Park is another hero who became the symbol of the civil right movement. A day, she refused to give her sit for a white people on the bus because she was pregnant. She was named “the mother of the civil right movement” and she created social cohesion in the black population.

Other heroes are symbols of national union by their title or position. In United-Kingdom, the Queen Elisabeth II have a big influence on the nation because she is known to all and represent UK in the world with her position and actions. She symbolizes national cohesion with her motto: “Duty first, self-second”.

Plus, these heroes can lead social cohesion with speeches which fuel the citizen spirit’s. It was the case of Churchill during the Second World War who, with his famous speeches boosted the determination of the English people to fight against the Nazi oppression’s and Hitler.

Secondly, the national heroes can help the world to be better: for that they don’t necessary need to be famous like Alain Turing who decoded the Enigma code used by the Nazi during the second world war. It saved many lives, but nobody was knowing/knew? that. So, these national heroes make the world better because they save life but without recognition or honors.

In addition, each of us has a hero and tries to follow its example to become like him. So heroes are set as example and influence destinies of people who follow their achievement. We can illustrate that with a picture of Barak Obama where we can see him watching Martin Luther King, his hero, on the TV. Martin Luther King was an American black Pasteur, who fought against the segregation in USA and made Obama want engage in politics against inequality.

Moreover, heroes can change laws or rights for the better with demonstration as “the suffragette” who were women who fought for the right of women especially for voting right in United Kingdom at the beginning of the twentieth century. Consequently the women can vote in UK since 1918 (nineteen eighteen), they have achieved a major gain/breakthrough for the society and nowadays they still have an impact on the society.

To conclude,
