Violence

In today's society, and for a very long time, violence has been present in different forms at all times. Unfortunately, many people believe that the most effective way of solving problems in today’s world is violence. Usually consider as the only possible solution, the use of violence always leads to profound tragedies. Ignoring past mistake, human don't understand that violence just leads to more violence.

When violence is used to solve problems instead of having an open discussion with the opponent, they act like children and judge other humans simply because they are a little different than themselves. We can observe this intolerance felt for people unlike them in the movie “Mississippi Burning”, when the Ku Klux Klan chase and hunt down innocent black people and then hang them or shoot them like animals. People would get killed just because of their skin colour or cultural beliefs? It doesn't make sense! But despite the absurdity of this reason, it is the first reason that causes so much violence in our world. These kinds of racism and violence have been present since the 1950’s and 1960’s, when they were used constantly by some people, but this was not the first time that a group of people were persecuted because of their difference. Another example from these times is found in the life of Martin Luther King Jr. who was a preacher who believed in negotiation and peaceful means rather then violence. He was just a man who was trying to solve the major issue of segregation experienced by the black people. He sought to copy the ideas expressed by Gandhi, which also dealt with peaceful means to solve problems. Tragically, Martin Luther King Jr. soon after was assassinated. This shows how much hatred and violence exists in mankind.

Our world is basically run by our society and the people who control it. Then what kind of society are we when we use violence against the helpless, and lack any sort of tolerance for those who are different from us? This goes to show us how many problems our society has these days, and has had for the past decades. An example of this would be Hitler, and how he killed Jewish people to carry out his objective of “a perfect world” which consisted of blonde hair and blue eyed people. This kind of terrorism seems sickening and disgusting. However, there are certain types of people who exist in the world that share the same opinion of Hitler. Violence has long-term repercussions that can affect entire ethnic groups many years after a disaster such as Islamophobia caused by the event of the September 11th. This was an act of terrorism and hatred. Osama Bin Laden was responsible for these terrible acts of violence towards the United States. These atrocious catastrophes have forever altered our sense of security and has changed the history of our world.

But even today, our society still values competition and this, since kindergarten! We should follow the example of the Nordic countries, where the education system is based on cooperation in order to eliminate this unnecessary evolutionary behavior that we indirectly and constantly teach children. The usual way of solving problems with violence rather then peaceful means, are not adequate anymore for the world in which we live. People are starting to realize who the “good” and the “bad” are. Fortunately, some people decided to stop doing nothing and acted.
