Introduction

Profit is the definitive goal for any organisation and every organisation is running behind it. The strategy is the fixation that has to be faultless if an organization desires to achieve such goal. Strategic management is the incessant path of forecasting, examining, scrutinizing and assessing of all that is required for business, to carry out its goals and objects. It also consists of exploration, examination, and evaluation of the critical trade decisions just before its implementation. The mainstay essentials of strategic management consist of key models like SWOT or internal analysis, developing effective action plans, implementation of action plans and appraisal of achievements and failures of the action plans. The whole idea of strategy based on proper planning, which shows an organization’s capacity to set goals to find out the decisions and actions that are needed to achieve the ultimate goal- profit.

As a strategy consultant, I have been approached by the Board of Directors of BTG International Ltd. to advise them on their future strategic direction. It is a UK based company, and it is headquartered at 5 Fleet Place, London EC4M7RD, UK (Btgplc.com, 2016).

In the fast growing pharmaceutical industries of UK, brand BTG is known for its drugs and lifesaving treatment. The company’s increasing assortment of Interventional Medicine stuff is premeditated to move forwards the medical research by curing liver cancer, complex emphysema, relentless blood congeals and varicose veins, etc. The company’s other pharmaceuticals assortment tender remedy to ease similar to fatal contamination, and also takes care of exceptional situations.  This Healthcare industry is an embryonic industry – as a result, BTG by no means stands at rest.

Strategic directions of the company

With an aim to evolve as a world leader in interventional medicine, BTG has equipped itself strategically for past few years and enhanced expertise in a chronological way.  At present, the healthcare unit emphasizes on developing innovative market products in key areas of medicine to serve both doctors and patients and help in improving the quality of life in a strategic way. Healthcare is forever evolving, and the advanced treatment of liver tumors, emphysema, varicose veins ensure meaningful improvement in lives of the patient. They have successfully introduced an unconventional solution to complicated medical issues. Most products are a combination of medicine, and new techniques, investigation process has been taken to new heights in past five years so that entire healthcare system could be enhanced and advanced treatment offered to patients. BTG unit believes in medical innovation and its ability in improving the quality of life (Crossan and Crossan, 2009).

BTG has been one of the fastest growing specialist companies in healthcare industry of the world. Established in Europe. However, today BTG is spread across different countries, especially in North America. Its worldwide Headquarter situates at London, England but has corporate offices at Llandysul, Wales; Camberley, Farnham, Prudhoe, England; Dusseldorf, Germany; Alzenau, Germany. In North America, its US Headquarter seats at Philadelphia, PA, and other offices spread out places like Nashville, TN; Seattle, WA; Salt Lake City, UT; Ottawa, ON; Mountain View, CA. It also has branches in Hong Kong and Taipei, Taiwan in Asia, and Adelaide, SA in Australia (Btgplc.com, 2016).

The company has stared its journey in the year 1948. It was founded by UK government to commercialize public funded research. After that, in 1995 BTG plc listed their names on London Stock Exchange, then its expansion became colossal, especially in the UK and North America.

Over 1,200 people are recorded as active employees of BTG. It largely rivets with three divisions in the healthcare industry; i.e. one, Interventional Medicine (IM), secondly, Specialty Pharmaceuticals, and lastly, Licensing (Warner, 2010).

The company’s interim corporate objectives comprise with specifics like- achieving fiscal targets, budding stuff for the stakeholders, recuperating operational competence and endowing for expansion (Annual Report, 2015).
