SEMINAR OUTLINE

Strategy involves the coordination and integration of the efforts within the different functional areas of an organization for dealing with an uncertain future. This comprises formulating a business strategy for each individual unit of the firm, formulating a corporate strategy, and implementing these strategies. Strategy formulation involves understanding the business the firm is in, determining how to position the strategic unit within this business environment, and developing the capabilities to compete, but also to cooperate, in this environment. Therefore, strategy at the same time coordinates and integrates the individual functional strategies such as manufacturing, marketing, sales, and finance.

REQUIREMENTS

This seminar requires careful attention, active discussions, tendency to research, and effective group work. The instructor's main role will be to provide global understanding of the key-concepts and basic knowledge of strategic area of study.

The seminar also requires from the attendant to have a basic background of management concepts and related topics.

STRUCTURE AND DUTIES

This seminar relies on a combination of a main lecture, attendants' contributions, case study analysis, and intensive class discussion.

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES

1. Considering strategic management concepts, scope, and tasks that lead to a good planification.

2. Analyzing the nature of strategic competitiveness and develop the ability to analyze the competitive environment.

3. Identifying the impact of the competition over the firm's ability to reach strategic goals.

4. Conceiving strategies in a firm taking into account its present conditions and future aims

5. Applying and assuming strategic choices, reviewing, evaluating and controlling
