Mondelez International

So this morning, we’re going to talk about the company: Mondelez international. In October 2012, Kraft Foods Inc. spun off its North American grocery business into 2 new companies called Kraft Foods Group and Mondelēz International, Inc. Our presentation will be on this latter.

But first of all, I would like to speak about the history of the parent company: Kraft foods

So in, 1903 James Lewis (J.L.) Kraft rents a horse and wagon, purchases wholesale cheese and begins selling it to small stores in Chicago, Illinois.

In, 1909 J.L. Kraft & Bros. Company is incorporated, with four of J.L. Kraft’s brothers – Charles, Fred, Norman and John involved in the business and the year after, the Business increases 125% over the preceding year.

During 20’s, the company becomes well-known and there is a lightning economic growth (in 1926 the Net sales top is about $36 million. In 1929, the company changes its name to General Foods Corporation after acquiring several brands, including Baker’s, Maxwell House, Minute tapioca and Jell-O.

The success of J.L. Kraft and his company was noted by Thomas McInnerney, founder of National Dairy Products Corporation. In 1930, Kraft-Phenix Cheese Corporation (as it was then called) was acquired by National Dairy Products Corporation.

In 1951, the net sales reache $1 billion mark and in 1953 company operates in 43 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, 8 Canadian provinces and 3 foreign countries (Australia, England and Germany). Unfortunately, the CEO and founder, J.L Kraft, dies this year.

In 1988, Kraft Inc. was bought by Philip Morris for $12.9 billion and the year after, Philip Morris Companies combined Kraft Incorporation and General Foods Corporation to form Kraft General Foods, the largest food company in the U.S.

In January 1995, Kraft General Foods became Kraft Foods, Inc. and was reorganized into a single operating company.

In 2001, Shares of Kraft Foods Inc. stock begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2007, Kraft Foods is spun off from parent company Altria Group Inc. and becomes fully independent. The same year, Kraft Foods acquires the global biscuit business of Groupe Danone for $7.6 billion.

On October 2012, Mondelēz International, Inc was created in order to smatch all the food brands bought since Kraft founds was founded at the beginning of the 19th century. Mondelez International Inc. is a food and beverage company. The Company manufactures and markets packaged food products, including snacks, beverages, cheese… Mondelez International sells its products throughout the world. The headquarters is based in the Illinois (United States). Mondelez international is the Europe’s largest chocolatier and biscuit baker, the second largest maker of candy and coffee and the third largest producer of gum.
