INTRODUCTION :

I studied this year the notion of spaces and exchanges. the subject that I am going to treat is the global cities. We studied in particular two examples of global cities. Let me begin by defining what a global city is. Is a big city with a dense centres and sprawling outskirts. It's a mega city where several people commute and exchange, it's also a multicultural city where different people live together. In class we studied two global cities, London during the 19th century and Singapour nowadays. There are dynamics hubs, leaders in the world economy, international marketplaces.

So what impact do global cities have on people’s everyday lives?

To answer this question, I'm going to talk about two examples of global cities.

DEVELOPPEMENT :

1) To start I am going to talk about the city of London during the Industrial Revolution.

We worked an audio document entitled "London : an evolving city". London was during the nineteenth century is a city with many pollution. In nineteen fifty two, there was the great SMOG in london, which occurred in december, the people died and tall the city stopped working. The SMOG is a mixture of air pollutants, which limits visibility in the atmosphere. It's a pollution. The SMOG is bad for the health and the environment. In London the people were irritated lungs, they breathed loudly, they had eyes that stung. They were difficult of life conditions. But after the SMOG London has worked on sustainable development. There have been improvements in transport like a road congestion charge. More recently there has been the installation of solar panels or the bioenergy. London is so a city who develops.

2) Now I'm going to talk about an another example of global cities as Singapore. Singapore named also the Lion city was before a city very poor but this city have emerged thanks to the development on high-quality school, public services and also health care and a comfortable way of life. Now Singapore has become a modern country. This year, we studied a picture which represent a tee-shirt sold in Singapore. The tee-shirt is covered in 9 ban signs, thus it's forbidden to do many things in Singapore like using chewing gum, smoking or picking flowers. The lion city is one of the cleanest city in the world. Singapore is a «fine» city because if people don't respect the law they are fined of 1,000 dollars and we can say that it's a little excessive. So the city is very strict and the individuals freedom are limited. We can say that global cities likes Singapore wants to promote and respect the environment with the repect of the laws.

CONCLUSION :

To conclude, we can say that global cities has brought a wealth of culture, linguistic and ethnic diversity and presents advantages but also drawbacks. However global cities have to solve problems in terms of pollution. More and more cities polute the environment and generate global warming . However cities try to find solution to reduce their polution and carboon print to live in a better world. Singapore and London are two exemples of global cities where millions exchanges take place.
