Myths and Heroes

I will present the notion of “Myths and Heroes”. A myth is a story that may or may not be true, it can be a popular belief, a tradition or a false notion. A hero is someone who has a lot of values and who is doing good deeds. This is a person who is admired for his achievements.

A whole range of new myths, with new heroes who can either be real or imaginary characters have been created over the ages. The rags-to-riches stories of famous American businessmen have thus given birth to a national myth: the American Dream. We will see if the American dream is a myth or a reality.

To begin, we will say that the USA is as a magnet for immigrants and after we will refer to the success stories through history.

The American dream has always inspired dream and hopes in the world. Poor or rich, if they live in America and they work with courage and determination, they can become prosperous. This prompted people around the world to come to America. Why? Because there were many jobs and the life was better. Rumors travel the whole world and each hoping to realize their dream left for America. In the twentieth century, nearly twelve million people had to go through Ellis Island near New York to go to America, where they began a new life. This island shows how much people believed in the American dream.

Even nowadays, when America became the first world power, the American dream still persists. In our class we have studied some famous success stories that reinforce the American dream and encourage the arrival of immigrant always more numerous. Among these stories, the most known are those of Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos. Steve Jobs is an adopted son but it's because he persevered that he get to make his dream a reality. He became a great inventor and revolutionized computers with Apple. Jeff Bezos, him, is a great pioneer who founded Amazon.com, the most trusted website of computer. It is also a technology entrepreneur who played a key role in the growth of e-commerce. Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos are hard workers, focused on their careers with a strong will. They are an example of success.

To conclude the American dream is a reality, the evidence is that America, before the wave of immigration was one of the least developed countries whereas now it is the world's most powerful country. America is the result of all the hard work of immigrants for realizing their American dream.
