EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Issue

Many companies that have good internal operations do not realize that it is enough to improve a process. If the company works better internally it could generate an increase in quality or service and therefore an increase in profits and in this way, reduce some costs. For this reason, we have proposed to the store, the Maison Chouchou, an external report that analyses their internal functioning.

Goals

The main objective of this report in logistics, is to do an internal audit of the Maison Chouchou store. Indeed, we have analysed the different processes within the company which allowed us also to make a flow. Second, we analysed the strengths and weaknesses of the company. Finally, we decided to analyse a weak point and make recommendations to improve it.

Methodology

The information related to” la Maison Chouchou” has been mainly gathered thanks to an interview with Alexandre Van Schrieck and some exchanges by mail. He is the store’s manager, he is responsible for all the orders, placing toys in the store as well as the stock management. Thanks to the tools seen during Supply Chain Management, we were able to analyse how the store operates.

We did not focus solely on the general description of the company, but we tried to understand and analyze how the store operates in relation to its main competitors. On the one hand, we highlighted other subjects like the storage, the way of working, their order, the marketing, how they manage the returns and finally the way they manage the period of Santa Claus.

Outcomes

The Maison Chouchou is a small shop very well-known and well anchored in the world of toys. Although the store has many points due to their great experience, we could find some weaknesses. Not only the stock management can be improved but also the marketing is quite weak on the part of Chouchou. On the one hand the management of the stock would be more optimal thanks to the use of an internet software, which would save them a lot of time. We advise them to modernize and computerize the way they manage their stock level. On the other hand, it should improve their marketing to try to gain more customer because their clientele is essentially based on a loyal clientele. For the next step, we should calculate the different KPI’s to check if every recommendation we have will bring more efficiency or not to the functioning of the company.

  1. INTRODUCTION

We all knew that logistic is really important in a company even for a small one. But how works it concretely?

For our 3rd year in International Trade with a specialization in Supply Chain, we finalize our education examining the audit of a toy company. Indeed, this assignment has as name: « Santa Claus Supply Chain ».

To concretize it, we collaborated with the famous first toy shop in Belgium « CHOUCHOU ». It was a real honour to work with an enterprise such a good reputation.

There are 2 main goals of this task according to us. Firstly, we can analyse concretely the audit of a company and put into practice what we learned about logistics these last months. Secondly, thanks to this analyse we are able to give a piece of advice to a company to improve its activity. So we can say that we help them to enhance their business.

To make our recommendation relevant, we have analysed a lot of different topics concerning Chouchou. So in this assignment, you will find a general presentation of the company leading to the different processes. Then, you will read our analysis which permitted us to identify different problems in the company. Finally, we conclude this work with the most relevant & helpful recommendation for their logistics.

  1. METHODOLOGY

As a part of our training in Supply Chain Management, we were asked to make an audit of a toy company in group for the course of Global Supply Chain Processes.
