Myths and heroes: when can we call a person a hero? what is a hero? what is a myth?

MYTHS AND HEROES :

  I’m going to talk about the notion myth and hero. First of I would like to give a single definition. A hero is a person admired for his good actions, noble qualities and great courage. They can be fictional like in the movie but here we can observ that a hero can be a single person who is remarkable and has many quality. Today and for me an there can be a man in the TV but it’s real hero..

  So we can ask when we can called a person an hero ? What is an hero ? What is a myth ?

  • To start, I’m going to talk about Nelson Mandela. For my opinion the veritable hero of the 20-21 century is Nelson Mandela.

  Indeed, it’s VIP man in the worldwide. Everybody knows Mandela for his heroic life. In fact, Mandela was the first president of the South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black chief executive. Everyday of his life, he fought against inequalities about black and white people.

  I think it’s a hero because he was not scared to confront the political man and assumes his ideas even if he was imprisoned during 27 years because the government doesn’t agree with him. And it’s probably his imprisonment which makes of him an veritable hero for a lot of people.

  Indeed, we can considered Mandela like an hero even if he can’t fly, he didn’t kill the nasty people like in cartoon he was a wonderful person who has give a lot of hope at the people of South Africa. And he kept the same opinion and ideas despite if many people doesn’t agree with him. It’s a hero but, unfortunnaly, inequalities between black and white people still exist.

  We can see what is an hero, so now what is a myth ?

  • Than, to illustrate what is a myth, I’m going to take the example of Mac Carthy and witch hunt.

  At first, a myth is traditional story, sometimes true.. Wrong. I’m going to explain what is Ma Carthy and why we can compare it with witch hunter. Joseph Mc Carthy was a Senator in USA during the cold war, he hunted the communist sympathizers because there was a conflict between USSR/USA.

  In fact we can compare with the witch hunters because the track of communist become a real obsession for the Mc Carthy and his groupe. In fact when he found a sympathizers, the aim was that denounces a maximum of communist sympathizers like in the witch hunt.

• I’m going now to conclur. For my opinion it’s important to have a hero, to considered someone like an hero because I think, it gives you a model, a example for your own life. So I think its good think to admire Mandela and realise his courage. And for the myth, I think that it’s important to separate what is true, what is wrong. For example Mc Carthy he didn’t the witch hunter, it’s just a comparison.
