MYTHS AND HEREOS
Introduction :
I am going to talk about the notion of myths and hereos.
To begin, I would like to give you some definitions about the theme.
A myth is a traditional or legendary story of a people. It can also be a story explaining a natural, a social phenomenon and typically involving supernatural beings or events. A myth is about a collective belief which is accepted without proof.
A hero in mythology or folklore is a person, with supernatural power, or with great morality. Heroes make myths alive. A hero can also be someone who inspires people by his qualities and his achievements.
We can ask ourselves whether the quality that creates heroes is the same as the one that makes them fall from their position?
I/There are many ways to become a hero
-First, sm can become a hero bc he has magical qualities or powers, like Super-heroes have. They usually use these power to make the good. => Superman, Anakin Skywalker.
-Secondly, one can become a hero bc we have capabilities that others admire: singers, sport’s stars…
-Thirdly: Bc U have done something exceptional : saved a dog, went to the moon…
II/ There seems nevertheless, to be only one way to fall from grace: a broken morality
-Anakin/Frankenstein: both of them said“What Have I done”, realizing th: they have done something very very bad ☹kill a friend, creating a monster), and from there.
-MJ: accused of pedophilia, went on trial on 2005, even if we was acquitted, that change people vision’s of him.
-Sportive: Tiger Woods cheating on his wife with many many girls/ Marion Jones : the fastest woman of the planet admitted that she took steroids. He didn’t respect the rules, and by consequences, loose the respect of people.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we can say that whatever the quality that makes you become a heroe is, the only one that makes you fall from grace, is moral default. But generally, the more famous heroes are, the harder they fall.
But even if we judge them, we love them. Heros with flaws are closer to us, they remind ourselves to us, and we can identify us to them. So, today, our society, or at least I prefer a hero like Dorian Gray, with weaknesses than an Achille or Hector with strong moral principles.
Finally we can see even if the hero is dead, the myth remains: Mickeal Jackson is still the King of Pop, and the lost of the heroic part of Anakin, makes the mythical part of Darth Vador.
