Some people feel that men and women still have gender specific roles. I disagree with this statement. In today's society, most of the time men and women are given the same opportunities. Men and women are now liberated and are free to choose their roles in life. How can we seriously say that both men and women are not equal... Women go out and work. These both genders can make their own decisions. Both have the right to vote. Both have the right to go and study in the school. In this free society, these both genders are equal. Society would answer this question by saying, "No, men and women are not equal," but I have a different opinion on this matter. Men and women are different in different ways, but all humans have things that differ between them. When it comes down to it, we are all humans and not one gender is greater than the other.

To begin with, some fathers have chosen the role of the “housewife”. In today's society, it is socially acceptable for the father to stay at home with the children while the wife becomes the primary breadwinner. The father stays at home, takes care of the children, and has assumed the household responsibilities. The mother can be the primary breadwinner. For some fathers, it is gratifying to be able to take care of their children. Women on the other hand, are happier working and pursuing her business career. With this example, it proves that traditional “gender” roles have certainly changed over time.

Secondly, women are now more educated and are assuming roles in higher-level positions. In the past, this was unheard of because women were thought more of housewives. [pic 1]

Lastly, the specific roles of men and women has changed. In the past, men and women have typically taken on roles that they feel were designed for their specific gender. For instance, women worked as nurses and men as mechanics or truck driver. In the past, almost all nurses were female.. Men were thought of as strong and physically hard workers, which is acceptable to be a mechanic or a truck driver. In these days, the gender roles have certainly been broken and no matter whether you are a man or women, as long as you are skilled to perform the job, you will be considered. It took many years for society to break these barriers. And now, in most cases men and women are looked at as equals.
