Diapo 1 : Hello everybody,  I am Alan MOREL, and I am currently in my second year of common core at the UTBM.

The subject of my presentation will focus on weapons in the USA

Diapo 2 : 13158 : It’s the number of people who have died since the beginning of the year. Since January, there have been 307 mass killings that have killed 42 people a day

Diapo3 : When we see such numbers we can then ask ourselves “What are the consequences of carrying arms in the USA?”

Diapo 4 First of all, I will present the weapons in the United States, then I will talk about the weapons policy in the United States, then I will compare with the other countries, finally I will talk about pro weapons and against armes associations.

Diapo 5 : Every year in the United States there are more than 30,000 deaths killed by firearms. However, two-thirds of these deaths are suicides. Mass killings accounted for 13,289 deaths in 2015. In addition, there are approximately 270 million legal weapons in the US. For comparison, the US is five times larger than the US but they have seventy-seven times more weapons than in the UK. The most significant is that 90% of people have a weapon in the USA while in UK there is only 6%.

Diapo 6 :  There are 357 million firearms (legal and illegal) in the United States while the US has 320 million inhabitants. There are more weapons than inhabitants. It is noted that the number of weapons continues to increase but also the number of victims of mass killings. Therefore, we can establish a coincidence between these two graphs

Diapo 7 : This document shows us the 10 biggest killings in US history. If we add the Texas killings that occurred on November 6, 2017, we see that of the 10 largest killings, 7 have occurred in the last ten years. This is due to the proliferation of weapons over the past decade. In 20 years the number of weapons has increased by 35%

Diapo 8 : Now I'm going to talk to you about weapons policy in the USA. Each state has its own laws on carrying weapons, and decides whether it is necessary to have a license to wear and use one.

The first map shows us the percentage of weapons in each state. It is observed that Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona .. are the states where the rate is highest. Now if we look at the second map we see that it is in these states that the percentage of deaths per 100,000 people per firearm is the highest. While in states such as Washington or California the percentage of weapon is one of the lowest, which is also the case for the percentage of deaths.

Diapo 9 : According to the political part, the vision on weapons differs. The Democrats is a party that is not in favor of weapons, we see that a large part want to make more stringent laws on weapons. That's why Barack Obama tried during his mandate to better control and control the sale of weapons. But his laws could never succeed.

The Independent, they are quite divided, but they are not really in favor of weapons.

Republicans as for them are pro-arms. That's why Donald Trump has defended total freedom on arms sales. It wants to remove post-purchase controls and harmonize the right to carry weapons in the 50 states with a federal license

Diapo 10 : According to this document, we note that the rate of homicide by firearms in the US is much higher compared to other developed countries. It is 32 times higher than that of France, and 320 times higher than that of Japan.
