I am going to talk about the idea of progress. First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion. The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development, or

a change technical, scientific, or social advance witch contributes to making the world better place. This year in class we studied several documents about this notion and in particular

the Indian society. Is today's India a modern country ?

First we'll see that India is a country which gets modernized , but in contradiction , there's still a part of the country which is still underdevelop.

Thanks to documents studied in class, The jewel in the crown, we learn that India was under British dominance from 1857 to 1947. After numerous rebellions, the United Kingdom

decided to leave India, allowing the country to find his state of independence. Further to that, India kept the system of British parliament. And we learn(teach)

on documents the world's largest democracy , which carries well the name, that a woman was elected as president for the first time in 2007. In 50 years, India became an

independent democracy.

These changes then attracted the emigrants to return in their native country, and returned with skills, experience and money. It then caused an economic

boom, creating then cyberbad, witch are high tech cities, and we can see on the picture of one hyperbad some buildings , skycraper , like in a western country. This sector has been

booming for over ten years and feeding Indian economic development. India is a country on the move.

But nevertheless, India still possesses numerous points to be improved. It is the country which contains a very strong disparity between men and women, in spite of various ways set up.

For example, the family of the bride has to give some money to that of the husband. The poverty is also a major problem. 40 % of the population lives with less than $2 a day. In spite of the system of current(in class)

studied microcredit, the population does not win enough to pay off them.

India is still influenced by religion and social customs like the caste système , Which lists the population in category and comes to prevent the interactions between the individuals

belonging to various categories, such as the marriage, or then a category will be much more favored than an other one?

On the one hand , indian society is evolving for the better. The high tech sector is booming. India has remained a democracy with female politicians playing major parts.

On the other hand, there a still many inequalities within india's population. Society is still very much influence by religious and social such as the caste system and there also huge

inequalities between man and women.
