WHAT IS YOUR TOPIC ABOUT ?

The story begins in 2010 in Chicago, a metropolis where violence and gang wars reign.

The south side is in a critical state with many murders and crimes of all kinds.

It is here that drill was born, a new type of rap that serves as a means of expression for gangs, such as the Black Disciple gang, which is making a name for itself with the member Chief Keef, who is a success at 16 years old.

Chief Keef used trap instrumentals which were quite common at the time, but he was much better than the average and he especially brought a

A new kind of music video with lots of black people, shirtless, in a flat, dancing and threatening us with guns.

It is the opposite of the usual gangsta rap, which tries to idealize the gangster life with girls in swimming costumes in villas.

The Chicago drill is about real gang members rapping realistically about their daily lives in a dark and violent way.

In the same year and still on the south side of Chicago, London Buckner, a percussionist in a marching band, loved to hit his snare drum as much as possible.

One day, he decided to start beatmaking, and began creating trap instrumentals, then started adding snare drums everywhere, some of them against the beat, inspired by the music he heard in Chicago clubs.

London Butchner became DJ L by laying the foundations that would allow drill to differentiate itself from trap, resulting in different and more danceable instrumentals.

These innovations would greatly impact on rap in London.

Following the economic problems of the Caribbean, Jamaica and the other islands in the 1970s, the inhabitants decided to migrate to European countries and the United States in order to find work.

Ten years later, economic crises began to hit the United States and Europe and most of the emigrants found themselves without jobs or hope, huddled in ghettos around the big cities.

Among these ghettos is Brixton in South London, which is 25% Afro-Caribbean and has seen record levels of unemployment, particularly after the 2008 financial crisis. In the years that followed, poverty and despair led to increased drug dealing, robbery and violence of all kinds, structured around growing gangs.

The young rappers from Brixton therefore recognized themselves directly in what was happening in Chicago, in Chief Keef's daily life, as they were experiencing the same thing.

They adopted the same style of rap and the same attitude, but compared to the United States, firearms are banned in England and showing them in a video can lead to a six-year prison sentence; and in London it is cold, so it is difficult for them to be shirtless.

So, they invented a new style, consisting of a down jacket, gloves, a scarf, a bonnet and a knife.

The bonnet is mainly worn so as not to be recognized by the police, as some of them are members of gangs and are wanted for crimes such as armed robbery, drug dealing and knife murders.
