Notion : Spaces and Exchange

The notion I will present today is spaces and exchanges and I have decided to tackle the question by studying the theme of the travel. The notion "Spaces and exchanges" deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. The different cultural, economic, sociological and language interactions have shaped and characterized our modern-day world.Traveling became nowadays something very common and widespread and less cheap but still people are amazed at every travel since every place is different.

So We may wonder what makes people want to travel ? We will see the reasons and consequences of travelling on people then that the means of transport are key to travel.

The desire to travel is motivated by different reasons that can vary from one person to another. Indeed, in the document written by Courtney Mirenzi, for the character travelling, isn’t something that transforms people, it won’t have a real impact on her, she will just have memories and experiences to share. But most of all, she travels alone, it gives her the occasion to have some time for herself, it’s something that she does for herself by herself. In contrary, some other people would rather travel with their family or friends in order to actually share memories with people that they appreciate. Moreover, in the interview of Caroline Lee, her family traveled and moved to an other country, to Australia, because of the class system and the opportunities which are more present in this country than in England. Here travelling permitted to change the life of a family. It also showed us that traveling isn’t only tourism.

Means of transport do have a great importance as they are not only used to transport travelers, but they are a real marketing tool. Indeed, as we can see in the document "A Canadian Pacific ticket envelope", the advertising poster incites people to travel by promoting, on one hand, a pleasant trip as shown by the happy family represented. On the other hand, the fact that it is argued to be "the world's longest scenic dome makes people want to travel even more. means of transport, as shown here by the Canadian Pacific train, can be an incentive to travel, an experience in its own way. That’s why a lot of facilities have been put in place to meet the desires of tourists and to pursue their expectations. For example, the legendary Route 66 which is a huge road along very big cities (Chicago, Texas...), where there are many stores, is a large-scale space, mythical...

The mural "the heart of the old Route 66 » depicts the road in the rock n roll era: we can see a festive spirit that makes us want to go there. As the dancing teenagers and shops represented.

To conclude, I think that travel broadens the mind. In fact, it's important to travel to discover, exchange, and have fun. People have various reasons to travel and means of transport may also play a big role in this and can be one of the reasons, a motivation especially because it tends to innovate. Whereas, because of tourism some places can be damaged that’s why more and more people are resorting to eco-friendly tourism.
