I’m going to talk about “the idea of progress”, first I will define the notion of progress, it’s an idea that the world and the society can evolve positively in terms of sciences, technologies, modernization and living condition. However, the idea of progress is still debate between those who consider that it’s beneficial and those for whom it’s harmful. So, have we gone too far/are the progress go too far? In a first time we are going to see the “dark side” of progress and in a second, we are going to see the betterment of progress and that the progress is often for better.

One one hand, new technologies are sometimes useless or toxic for mankind. Indeed, many persons use their phone so much, it’s a addiction, this persons are addicts and dependent on these innovations. Plus, in the social media anonymity is dangerous for people, some persons do harm to other people because anonymity protect them. Some medical innovation can be useless or unacceptable like the PGD, the pre implantation genetic diagnosis, because with it the parent can will choose some characteristics of their future child. Now they can choose the color of their hair, or their eyes but in the future, they will choose the IQ of their children to create the perfect child. i think it’s useless and inadmissible imperfections are the life of the child, not of parents. Plus, the imperfection of humans are the power of mankind because if all the people are perfect there are no question no objection so there are no progress so the mankind can’t progress for the better. Plus, the new technologies pollute and cause the global warming, so the progress will cause the destruction of the earth and maybe elimination of humanity.

But on other hand, many advances are good for society like the progress on the medicine way, with new vaccines or and new storage like the vaccines storages who can stay cold enough to keep the vaccines safe even during long power outages. Moreover now we can cure many diseases thank the progress and in the future we can probably cure some genetic diseases with for example the PGD technique. Indeed, with PGD we can cure a sick people thank to a embryo. Plus new technologies can help man in different work, like car tractor…, or just to communicate more quickly. Indeed, now we can use cell phone to talk with everyone everywhere. There social media to communicate too, now communication is so easy for us, we can find everything at a click with internet. Plus, there are many innovations in the robotics to help the old people during their everyday life with especially the AI, artificial intelligence, who permit, for the old people, to save human relation, communication and divert these persons.

To conclude, I would say progress is neither all good or all bad. Put into the hand of human being, that knowledge can be used for medicine or great advances. It’s not scientific knowledge that is either good or evil, but the application of it. So for me the progress is for the better because there are many innovations useless for human and other innovation are not well for human but there are negligible, insignificant in comparison to the good technologies and evolution.
