                                        Myths and Heroes

Hello!

Today, I’m going to talk about the notion of Myths and Heroes. First of all, I’m going to

define this notion. A myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief

or a false notion. An hero is someone who fights for a good cause and is ready to make a personal

sacrifice for this cause. There are two types of heroes : the fictitious heroes and real heroes who live

in our society. An hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her

achievements, a superhero or maybe an icon.

By analysing those notions « Myths and heroes », we will try to answer the following question :

Can a celebrity be defined as a hero? My presentation is made up of two main parts : we will first

study the similarities, and we will analyze the differences between celebrities and heroes.

The words "heros" and "celebrity" have different definitions. A celebrities are people that are well

known and easily recognized in society. Often they are known for their artistic abilities, athletic

prowess or good looks. Despite their different definitions, there are similarities between the two.

The main similarity between a hero and a celebrity is that both are admired by individuals. The first

document I have chosen  is a photo taken during a concert of Justin Bieber. In this photo we can

see fans of Justin Bieber. So heroes and celebrities are admired by many people.

We can see in another document studied in class that is a website that some heroes and celebrities

defend causes that are close to their hearts. This website is "Looktothestars. com" and  talks about

celebrity charity news, events, organizations, and causes. This website is interesting and relevant

illustration of the notion of Myths and Heroes because it shows some celebrities have performed

heroic acts using their wealth and fame like for exemple Angelina Jolie, Elton John or Bill Clinton..

In today's society, celebrities and heroes are all too often considered one and the same. Often, when

asked to name a personal hero, people will name a celebrity. But celebrities and heroes are different

types of people with different definitions. Celebrities are often known for their artistic abilities or

their beauty. The hero is often known for his physical abilities and exploits. But sometimes it

happens that the celebrities switch to the side of melancholy, unlike heroes who are always very

strong. In a class paper called "Three Legend", we saw that the singer Amy Winehouse died

at the age of 27 from an overdose and that Norma Jean Baker (or Marylin Monroe)  died at the age

of 36 from a drug overdose. So the heroes are always perfect, contrary to celebrities.
