Should companies hire people without any work experience and train them later?

Hiring is a very important factor in a company as it has a direct effect on the firm’s life and performance. Hiring criteria can differ from one company to another, but the debatable question of whether candidates should be experienced or not always remains. Some reasons lead to consider companies should hire people without any work experience and train them later. As a matter of fact, inexperienced employees will work harder, have less impact on payroll, and youth unemployment can be avoided.

First, inexperienced workers are aware that they have a lot to prove when they have just been hired. They show more determination than most and are very eager to learn. They receive a chance from the company that handles all of their training program. The company executives who disagree mention the lack of teamwork and ability to operate certain machines of inexperienced employees. Despite the fact that this argument can be accurate in certain cases, new inexperienced employees still in training will be twice as careful as other workers. Therefore, they will work harder and learn quicker to in order to avoid any incidents on the job. For instance, a new employee at Fishbowl Inventory who had never used the company’s inventory control software mastered it rapidly. She even made suggestions that within four days ended up in the best results ever seen in her area of work (Williams, 2012).

Furthermore, candidates without experience will be less demanding when it comes to their salary which makes inexperienced hires much cheaper and reduce the company’s payroll significantly. On the contrary, many claim the cost of training employees properly is astonishing. Although providing employees with a proper training course amounts to an important cost, it is a beneficial investment for the company. The training course is, in fact, temporary, but a well-trained employee’s performance can generate much higher benefits for the company in the long run. The employee will also be grateful for the opportunity to acquire new competence and develop a close relationship with the firm’s culture, producing a stronger attachment to the company itself than the money that can be earned.

Finally, many companies seeking only experienced workers are the main cause of youth unemployment. Hiring inexperienced workers and training them later will help a large portion of almost 300 million 15- to 24-year-olds not working (Generation jobless, 2013). Experience is gained by working, and not hiring someone only reduces their opportunities to actually have a work experience. The youth are therefore subject to discrimination because they are not hired as they do not have any experience, but they are not given the chance to prove themselves.

To conclude, numerous arguments plead against this idea, but hiring people and then providing them with a training course is very beneficial to companies. In fact, trained workers will always demonstrate efficient job performance and try to always improve it as they are very devoted to the company. Moreover, youth unemployment around the world can be reduced and provide the future with better educated workers.
