Introduction:

It’s the last chapter of the book, and it gives kind of a conclusion , overview about the nanjing massacre

The title, “A clash of memories” means that there are different way to remember the nanjing massacre : the Japanese memory and the Chinese memory.

1 ) Why has the Nanjing massacre received so much attention in recent decades, in sharp to its relative obscurity during the 1950s and 1960s?

After the massacre, the entire world heard about the atrocities that have been committed in nanjing,

China, based on the memory of the massacre, brought all the citizens together, and then started to become a powerful country.

The memory has not been static, has been metamorphosed over time in postwar history.

the obscurity during the 1950s and 1960s is because both china and japan refused to communicate

What issues are at stake in the ongoing debate?

As the author says in the text, the debate over the nanjing massacre isnt about the difference between china and japan.

Indeed, it says that there is only one truth about the nanjing massacre

even though china and japan use the terms ‘truth’ and ‘facts’ pretty often to defend their conditions.

And as i already said, the memory is always changing
