1/ Compte rendu de l’article de la revue Popular Science de Décembre 2002 : Tower of the sun
EuroMission, entreprise australienne, ouvre une voie innovante dans la production d'énergie à partir du soleil. Au lieu de convertir directement l'énergie du soleil en électricité, ce système utilise de l'air chauffé par des panneaux (verre, plastique). Ils entourent la base d'une cheminée de 913m et créent un courant d'air ascendant continu, à 56.3 km/h, qui entraîne des turbines.
Selon l'entreprise, ce courant entrainerait 32 turbines, générerait 200 mégawatt ou alimenterait 200000 foyers. La centrale pourrait continuer à fonctionner la nuit grâce à des tubes d'eau chauffée par le soleil la journée. Ils continueraient, ainsi, à réchauffer l'air sous les panneaux durant la nuit maintenant l'activité de la centrale.
Un prototype plus petit a été testé en Espagne.
Pour être réellement efficace, les concepteurs disent que la cheminée doit mesurer au moins deux fois la hauteur de l'Empire state Building.
Estimé à 670 millions de dollars, le projet n'est pas bon marché. Les arguments avancés pour justifier l'investissement sont : durabilité, coûts de maintenance bas et absence de pollution.
Le gouvernement Australien accepte la construction mais pas le financement.

3/ What is beeing done -and what else do you think could be done – to prevent energy crisis
Following the two oil shocks, the increase in consumption has generated more growth who impacted on production and therefore the environment.
We have understood that fossil fuels are not inexhaustible.
To prevent energy crisis, many actions have been done
- Reducing product and transport, and boost local and regional business
- Research for green energy, bio fuel.
However, acts and mentality slowly advance.
I think it will be interesting that
- an electricity deployment from photovoltaic panels, wind power electricity be done.
- The eco fuel or green fuel may be daily used
- Drastic anti-pollution standards for industries should be implemented and
- raising people’s awareness of ecological problems.
It’s essential that people and industries mentality change if we hope to limit the energy crisis.
