ART AND APARTHEID

INTRODUCTION

The apartheid it’s a system or practice that separates people according to color, ethnicity, caste. We are going to talk about the international artistic reaction against apartheid.In the early years of apartheid black artistes are neglected . Those are white artists who takes care of South afriacan art.

I. THE MUSEUM OF APARTHEID

The city of Johanesburg have a museum dedicated to illustrating apartheid.

Since 2000 the city of Johanesburg interested about street art and particularly on the subject of the history of the city .

Johannesburg is the symbol of South Africa as a democratic nation post apartheid

II. MUSIC AND APARTHEID

The music has been at the heart of the fight against apartheid.

While the world denounces in song apartheid . South Africans are hiding .

The censorchip forbidden for several years to sing the name of Mandela so some artists change the name of mandela to Manelo.

Jonny clegg has been the first south African use the name of Nelson Mandela in the sing Asimbonanga in 1987.

There are many activist singer like Miriam Makeba who became the voice of apartheid.

III. PHOTOGRAPHY AND APARTHEID

Pignon Ernest did a picture. This picture represente a man who wears the body of a schoolboy kill during the Soweto riots.

Omar Badsha is an artist photographer who is an activist antiapartheid . He became an apartheif activist when the police set fire to high school in march1960 . He say there is a

community of activists because without solidarity ans whitout friendship he would never have a figth.

VI. OTHERS

Authors such as Robert Sobukwe, Eskia Mphahlele, Steve Biko and many others

Movies as Invictus ,Good By Bafana, Come Back Africa speak about apartheid.

And painters like Bruce Clark and Antonio Saura.

To conclude black people have really suffered during these 43 years, that most artist singers, photographers and painters have mobilized against apartheid and they supported Nelson Mandela
