BED disorder

Unknow and misunderstood, the BED is a silent disorder who seem at first sight, like the gluttony when no diagnostic is made, in fact, this disorder seems to be more common than we think and affect in general adults with a little to no distinction for a gender, it is only in 2013 that it was recognized as a mental health issue, since then the ways to treat it are slowly progressing as the awareness of it spread to the public and the health professionals. To understand what the BED is, it is essential to learn about its subtilities and what characterize it. Reason why firstly we will see, its symptoms and secondly how the medical field handles it.

As previously said, BED is a silent issue that put the persons who suffer from it in a conflicted state mind, on top of that it made them vulnerable to the judgment of others. In other words, it is an isolating disorder that slowly take a tall on the social life of someone, which promote the stress and its overeating coping mechanism. In addition to that shame and guilt unable the affected one’s to speak about it to their entourage and seek medical advice, besides that, the most don’t even know that they are suffering and think that something is simply wrong with them. So, we can quietly deduce that this disorder is a kind of a self-suiting reaction due to a feel of insecurity or a stress that got overeating as an immediate response.

Moreover, BED has its effects on someone physical health, in many cases it led to obesity and all its consequences like the joint’s problems, difficulties to move or walk due to the excessive weight, hearth and other organs are in potential damage and could put someone’s life in danger. Whereas the lucky ones, if we can say so, gain no weight but the consequences on the long run are still under investigation. In conclusion, we can still guess that this affection can damage the body, as the binge eaters are more incline to have a fetish food that they will consume in an excessive amount and too regularly.

As we can see, this health issue is seriously incapacitating many as it is isolating them and appears to be silently destroying their life.

Also, Even when someone acknowledge the trouble and go to seek advice from professionals, they are confuse as the healthcare system provide them with a variety of answer that doesn’t seem to fit, In other words, as this issue was recently recognized, the awareness around it in still in progress and the doctors are still adjusting to it, reason why some of them tent to guide the BED patients to slimming center or invite them to follow a diet rather to focus on the mental health problem, who in this case is it one the most important aspect.

However, as we are in the era of knowledge, the understanding around the BED is progressing with certainty, the health professional’s start to be more aware and the people too, that’s create a better place to feel safe to decide what to do to help itself, for example, specialized BED health counselor provide with therapies around the stress management that help to establish a healthy coping mechanisms when a stress arises. Also, the gastric sleeve operation seems to be chosen by many to help and have a fresh start, we can say in a way, that helps to erase the difficulties around their own body image and most importantly, to reduce the health concern that accompany the obesity.
