ONLINE SHOPPING

Amazon was created in 1994, one year after eBay took shape, since [a]then people could see more and more websites where you can buy from a book to a chair. But has this growth of online shopping greatly improved life for consumers?

The ability of doing shopping with computer or phone has clearly good aspects.

Firstly, the international factor which allow people to buy anything from worldwide companies. Nowadays it is possible to buy a bag from Thailand while someone else is paying for a US computer. This led to a huge development of little business from all around the world which do not need a real store anymore. Moreover, buying online and the delivery system improved the lifestyle not only for seniors but also for people with disabilities and reduced mobility.  They can save money because no domestic aid needs to be paid. People living far from city centres are also able to save time and do not have to take their car or travel kilometres to buy groceries.

In contrast, online shopping is making customers lazier than before. Most people do not go to restaurants, shops, or even the cinema anymore, everything is purchasable without people needing to leave their homes. With this kind of shopping we could enter in an antisocial era. Additionally, there is an important impact on our climate and on the environment due to exportation. As written above, now people can buy at an international scale which means not from local market or shops. The exportation of all these products from abroad is made by plane and consumes a lot of kerosene which is a greenhouse gas.

In conclusion, online shopping is very useful for people who are not able to go themselves to a local shop or to find stuffs that they absolutely need and can not find in these local shops. On the other hand, online shoppers could get lazy and buying online is not “Environmentally friendly”
