This press cutting entitled “The battle over the gender price gap” extracted from the British Broadcasting Corporation news magazine of February the fifth, 2016, deals with justly the battle over the gender price gap. So the main issue of this article is how the feminine gender fights for his rights and tries to bridge the gender price gap. And my analyse will fall into two parts, first I will focus on the pink tax, and secondly on the actions done by campaigners that can bring changes.

Let us begin by the pink tax, so we well understand that there is a price discrimination over the different genders. And it should be recognized that this price distinction affects all types of products that woman can buy. For example, the problem is shown with the Boots laboratories make up which for similar products charges women more than men. Furthermore, this price gap is more noticeable for beauty products or clothes. More precisely, according to a Times investigation, women are charged on average of 37% more for an equal product. Which per year represents a considerable difference.

Now, let’s have a look on how campaigners fight for an equal price among genders. So according to them the decrease of razors price is the beginning of an equality of treatment. Unfortunately, the chemist chain consider that fall as just an “isolated incident”. However, it doesn’t compromise at all the willpower of the campaigners to reduce the discrimination because a petition has already collected more than 43.000 signatures proof that the problem has been well highlighted by the campaigners. Thanks to this serious amount of signatures, the parliament has been awarded of the discrimination setting up by chemist’s chains, and measures to quantify the extent of the problem have been put in place.

To conclude, we have seen that they were real discrimination organized by retailers for different kind of products which obviously handicap women who are charged more than men for equal goods. But what is shown in this press cutting it’s that with a real desire you can change things or turn the tide.
