The film "The Platform" is a Spanish film released on Netflix in 2020. The film features a character named Goreng. This character is sent to prison but not a prison as we know them in order to obtain a certificate. It’s a tower with hundreds of floors. The goal of the experience is to get out of this special prison with a certificate that serves as a privilege for a future project. Every day, a platform comes down, filled with food. It goes down the floors little by little and empties itself as it goes. At one point there is nothing left to eat and people at a very low level have eaten nothing.

As you have understood, the only way to survive would be to eat your fellow prisoners when you get to a floor too lower, and therefore to become a cannibal. This film presents a society completely different from ours, to be able to have a better life, the inhabitants of this country must go to the platform in order to be able to obtain a certificate which will allow them to realize their dream.

In the film, the main character, Goreng, wants to change this principle, he finds that there is too much inequality between the people who live above and those below. He will then do everything to get there and will deprive some of their usual big meal.

To summarize we can see that this film presents the inequalities of a regime, the social ranks no longer work. This film shows that we can change the way the platform works, and therefore the way society works. Despite the inequalities, we can survive if we organize ourselves. You just have to stop thinking about yourself but also think about others. We can therefore compare our societies with the one present in the film. Indeed, this film can perhaps highlight the problems of our society by using a dystopia

In this extract we can see how the platform works and how Goreng's roommate sees things about the platform and shows that he is not thinking of others but of himself.
