The Idea of Progress

« All progress is precarious, and the solution of one problem brings us face to face with another problem » said Martin Luther King Jr in 1963. Over the years, Nigeria has developed and may one day become a great European power. So, we will seek to answer the next question: What is the potential of Nigeria? To answer that, we will focus on the advantages of Nigeria. Then, we will focus on the disadvantages of Nigeria. In a last part, we will see the possible trade-offs possible for Nigeria to become an important power.

  1. To begin, Nigeria has many assets

A) It’s a popular country in Nigeria because it’s a country with cultural benefits. Every years, a lot of people visit this country because Nigeria has many national parks like Kamuku National Park or the Yankari National Parks. The people who visit can also admire the landscapes at the edges of the Afi Mountain.

B) Nigeria also has economic advantages. It’s an economic capital with the GDP of 1.1 hundred 9 trillion dollars. This is because, Nigeria is the 4th producer of cocoa in the world and he is one of the largest producers of oil in the world.

C) Nigeria is the mother of multiple artists. Many nigeran’s people have become known personalities today, it’s a success for the country. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a writer from Nigeria and she wrote a few famous books like Purple Hibiscus and she won the National Books Critics Circle in 2014 with Americanah.

II)          Then, Nigeria has disadvantages too.

A) It’s an economic capital but there is corruption. The essential corruption is about the broad trade of oil. It’s a source of money so malicious people want to attack this commerce. It’s perhaps one of the reasons why during a night of June 2013, a pipeline was blowing up and causing thousand barrels of oil to spill into the swaps.

B) Unfortunately, it’s a known country also for the Boko Harm threat. Boko Haram terrorized the nigeran’s population for 9 years. A lot of girls were kidnapped, and the government didn’t react. A surge of solidarity was formed with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls

C) Finally, has got the highest rates in children out of schools. We can explain this fact, because a lot of girls get married before 18 years and they are not educated. In most of cases, the husband is stronger than the girl so it’s easy for him to have a wife. The problem is when the husband wants to divorce with the girl, if she has a child, she has no support.

III)        Maybe there are compromises to stay a competitive country and stop malicious activities

A) To stop the corruption into the country, the government can strengthen the security next to the important place of the production of oil and other place that practice economic activities

B) The past of Nigeria with Boko Haram is very hardly, but the government and politicians or artists can promote a new security into the country with advertising

C) For the early marriage of the girls in Nigeria, the government can help families with advice not to marry his daughter to early and if it’s not possible, the government can help families in schools, for example make the uniforms free.
