Spaces and exchanges :

Project 1 : On top of the world

Prbl : To what extent can we consider a global city as a place of diversity through the case of NYC?

The notion I’m going to deal with is Spaces and Exchanges. First of all, when thinking of Spaces and Exchanges, what comes to mind is that all societies are somehow defined by the geographical and symbolic spaces they occupy and how they open up these spaces to what lies farther away. Geographically, our world has never seemed smaller as transportation and telecommunications have accelerated the rhythm of exchanges between areas. That’s why new forms of influence, new spaces - such as global cities - and new modes of exchange are emerging, redefining our conception of space.

I will present this notion by focusing on the topic of on top of the world.

Thereby, on top of the world is linked to this notion as both deal with the globalisation, the social life, and the social and economic problems, no to mention the immigration as well as changes.

So, we may wonder to what extent can we consider a global city as a place of diversity through the case of NYC?

I will follow two tracks, namely the different aspects of global cities and their roles.

To begin with, I will concentrate on a global approach of the city with the case study : NY, a global city. Then, I will analyse the video entitled Underneath the hustle and bustle before focusing on the recording which talk about the drawbacks of big cities.

I: Case study: Ny, a global city:
