Interstellar

Intro :

i am giong to talk about the notion of progress. First of all i would like to give a quick defition

the progress is a idea that the world and the society can evolve positively in therms of sciences, technology, art and modernization

How does a film like Interstellar will change the world of the cinema ? We will see the progress through interstellar

Summary :

Interstellar is a science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan in 2014. The movie takes place in a dystopian future where humanity is struggling to survive, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of a new home for humanity.

The movie shows the history of Joseph Cooper, a widowed former NASA pilot. He runs a farm with his father-in-law, son Tom, and daughter Murphy. The earth is diying and children are raised to be farmers. But Joseph wants Murphy to  be an engineer and encourages her to carefully observe and record what she sees. They will discover a secret NASA facility headed by Cooper's former supervisor, Professor John Brand who explains that  48 years earlier a wormhole appeared near Saturn, opening a path to a distant galaxy with twelve potentially habitable planets located near a black hole. Cooper is recruited to pilot the spacecraft that will help him and his team to explore planets. He is forced to abandon his children if he wants to save them.

Special effects :

Christopher Nolan shot Interstellar in many different places. First, in Canada, next in Iceland and finally in Los Angeles. Nolan wanted to create a realist atmosphere that’s why he used special landscapes to illustrate his movie. He didn’t used many visual effects except for the spacecraft that were created using miniature effects, and some robots that we can see in the movie. For Interstellar they created the effects first so that digital projectors could be used to display them behind the actors, rather than having the actors perform in front of green screens.  Some shots  were created in camera using digital projectors, and other were created in post-production.

To create this movie Nolan was helped by an american physician named Kip Thorne specialized in black hole and wormhole. Thorne collaborated with visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin and a team of 30 people at Double Negative. He provided pages of deeply sourced theoretical equations to the engineers, who worked on the film, who then wrote new computer generated imagery rendering software based on these equations to create accurate computer simulations .

Conclusion : To conclude the movie represents a real evolution. Indeed it spreads an alert message. The fact that the movie takes place in a dystopian future make people believe that this is a possiblity and it may happen to us. So we have to be carefull with the way we are treated earth. By making his film the most realist possible his message is easy to understand.
