Seats and types of power

        I will talk about <>.

First of all I will give a definition of «Power». It’s the ability or the official capacity to exercise control or authority over others. It can be a person, a group, or a nation having great influence over people.

There can be good or bad types of power. The notion of power implies a basic division between those who have and exercise power and those who have none or "little of it" . Even when authority seems absolute, there are always counter-powers which question it, aim at limiting its excesses and resisting.  Power can exist in different places, on different levels. We can evoke the power of a head of state on his nation. A dominant nation, for instance, will often use its clout to influence or support other governments or to seize control of other nation states.

The concept «Seats and types of power» includes different forms of power, the submission or the opposition to the power.

How can we depict the different forms of power, in various places ?

To my mind, the document that seems illustrate the notion the best are the audio document called "Tiawan Gongloe", a document about Edward Murrow and finally an article about the press in general.

There are various kinds of powers, first I will speak about power of charisma.

To illustrate this, I have chosen to present Edward Murrow, an American journalist whose radio news broadcasts during the Second World War were followed by millions of listeners in the US and Canada.
Murrow produced a series of TV news reports that helped the collapse of Senator Joseph McCarthy who accuses innocent people of being Communists, so being anti-American.
Murrow said, "We must not confuse dissent and disloyalty. We must always remember that an accusation is not proof and that conviction based on facts and on a regular legal procedure. " and with his personality he restored the truth to the American people.

Another character who has fought for his rights thanks to his values and charisma is Tiawan Gongloe.
Tiawan Gongloe, solicitor general of Liberia, knows his country's justice system from both sides of a jail cell.  He was imprisoned and beaten for speaking out against the government of then-president William Tolbert, and later for speaking out against President Charles Taylor. Although he lived briefly as an exile in the United States, his goal was always to return to his home country:  to "change Liberia for the better."

I find that these two characters are very brave and deserve to be recognized as caring people who are trying to establish the truth.

Now, if we look at the power of the media for example we can see how much it can influence the public opinion. The mass media plays an important role in forming our personality, enriching our knowledge, providing us information of any kind. The mass media can have an effect on our personal identity: it can help us to feel that we are part of a group (social networks) but on the other hand it can contribute to a feeling of isolation. The media can have a strong political influence or can shape the way we perceive certain groups of society – minority groups, pressure groups…mass media are powerful because they make us believe what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior (reality TV).
