The American Dream is the idea that any person living in the United States, through hard work, courage and determination, can become prosperous.

The notion that any immigrant can succeed from nothing has been fortified by the vast land mass, natural resources, and political and economic liberalism that characterize the United States. This idea is as old as the discovery of the American continent, although its formulation has evolved.

Do you agree with this vision of the US?

Would you consider living there? Why (not)?

If this idea has been embodied by several personalities or emigrants who have returned to invest in their countries of origin, the American social reality has made many immigrants disappointed. Nevertheless, this concept has been, and still is, one of the main drivers of the migratory flow to the United States, one of the most important in human history. So I don't quite agree with this view, many migrants are killed due to racism or are excluded from society without being free and without work.

I can't see myself living in the United States with all its drawbacks. Indeed, one of the biggest dangers is the carrying of guns allowed in some states. Also, there is less protection for employees. Vacation time is limited to fifteen days per year when you start and one week can be added depending on your seniority. There is no maternity leave, no luncheon vouchers or other benefits like in France. Only health insurance can be paid in full or in part by the employer. Social security and mutual insurance are not like in France. Health coverage is practically non-existent.

You have to subscribe to private mutual insurance companies and it is a big budget. The health system is very expensive. Salaries are higher but so is the cost of living.

To conclude, the American dream only exists in half, it is mostly an American ideology rather than a fact. Moreover, I don't see myself living in the United States with all the disadvantages that it can have.
