Thanksgiving celebration

THANKSGIVING (corrigé)

Today my topic is Thanksgiving celebration .

Thanksgiving is celebrated in the USA on the 4th Thursday of November.

Thanksgiving is a bank holiday, most people don’t go to work, children don’t go to school.

A few days before Thanksgiving day, the President of the USA pardons a turkey. “The turkey pardoning celebration” takes place in Washington DC in the garden of the White House.

Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year: American people travel by car, train, or plane to be with their families. They take advantage of this long weekend to go see their friends and family to celebrate thanksgiving together

In the morning of Thanksgiving Day, there is “The Macy’s Thanksgiving parade”. The parade  is in  New York City. 

3.5 million spectators attend the parade and 44 million viewers watch the parade live on TV.

The parade is composed of giant balloons, smaller balloons, floats, cheerleaders and dancers, performers, clowns, marching bands, stars and celebrities.

Then, American people prepare dinner for Thanksgiving.

Before dinner, The American people pray to thank god.  

The dinner is composed of a main course : a stuffed turkey. This main course is accompanied by side dishes: sweet potatoes, gravy, green bean, corn on the cob, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and squash.

To finish the dinner there is the desert : there is apple pie, pumpkin pie and pecan pie.

Some people want to celebrate Thanksgiving differently, some people run in a “Turkey trot”, or visit residents in need, 

After dinner, American people can take a nap, have a walk, play outside, and play board games. Or American people watch football on TV or play football. Other Americans decorate their house for Christmas.

The next day is “Black Friday”. Black Friday is a day of sales in all stores .

The following Monday is “Cyber Monday”. Cyber Monday is a day of sales online.

These sales launch the Christmas shopping.
