    Speech: Prejudices, Stereotypes, Discrimination

Hello everybody, my name is Imène and today I am here to address a topic that may not seem concrete or crucial for you. And I’d rather not be here today because I believe I have more important things to do than to come here, in order to remind people to think better. But I just realized that this is the beginning of everything. And it’s all up there, in our minds. The way we think, perceive, conclude. The way we look, and react.

Nowadays, in life, everyone gets judge. For some reasons, or for no reason at all. And I am sick of it, I’m sick of ideas, based on stereotypes and unfounded judgments that are the result of our society. Our simplistic and closed minded society. That’s a reality, prejudices are born in coffee chats and political speeches.

No, no you don’t know someone because the person fits the criteria of the category you have invented in your own mind. No, just because the majority of people think a certain way does not mean they are necessarily right. You have the chance to think for yourself, go and find the answer on your own.

Classifying someone because of what anyway? According to a person's appearance, according to the way a person speaks, according to the way a person dresses, what more? Sometimes even according to skin color or religion, oh great, careful you’re that close to racism, but it’s not right? Right?

Go ahead, come to me and dare to say that again. Alright, I’m going to say it out loud.

No, people wearing upside down caps and using a vocabulary maybe different from yours aren’t “all the same” and what’s “all the same” anyway? People, We are in the 21st century, I can come from a suburb and not be completely stupid and rude. Gfw

Oh, and all the blacks are so aggressive and....yeah of course stupid, and do drugs on the weekends because...em, well, their dad is actually a dealer, a real gangster.

And of course, all Arabs are thieves, but I have to admit that I have two pens in my kit and they are not mine, so I can't really blame anyone for that.

Do you think that’s right? Do you really think you are legitimate to make that kind of accusations about people. Would you like to be judge instead? Do you like having an image put on your face based on completely ridiculous and stupid criteria? What you are doing right now is what has ruined and is ruining the world.

Sexism, Harassment, Racism, Discrimination, this is all that follows from your unjust judgments.

People must learn to see beyond the end of their noses. And you should all know that you cannot guess people’s life or personalities by looking at them or talking to them for two minutes.

The fact that one always want and need to portray and categorize someone. Because you’re scared of what’s different, scared of what you don’t know and don’t understand. People like labels, like putting you in a box, they want you to be who they want and expect you to be. Our current society needs to put an image on people and of course, who’s going to look very far when you can have the answer coming out of your mind and people around you. Coming from racists, coming from people who may had a bad experience with someone. Is it really that hard to question yourself?
