Ngor’s unfulfilled dream

The land work was over. It was a long period of hardships. The rainy season has been wonderful and the villagers were so satisfied. There were plenty of millet, groundnuts and beans.

Having heard about life in the city, Ngor sold all his crops and started a long journey from his native village to the city of his dream: Dakar; hoping to make a lot of money but also to spend wonderful times.

The journey started at night. It was Ngor’s first travel to Dakar. He arrived in the capital very tired, thirsty and hungry. His only luggage was a bag and a bundle. Here and there he could see some people rushing to the buses; others having breakfast at open air restaurants.

One day while he was crossing a bridge, a gangster came and threatened him: “if you come next time in the bridge, I will kill you.”Ngor thought of Salimata and his two years- old baby. His desire was to get an occupation in order to support his obedient and hardworking wife.

At night, he slept in a market .There were all kind of dirt. The lack of sanitation was unacceptable but Ngor had no choice.Ngor did not want to go back home empty-handed.”Dakar is a hell but I’ll struggle forever”, he said.
