The movie “Dead Poets Society” has many themes, and one of the themes that played a big role is alienation. All of the main characters have felt alienated at least once throughout the movie by their parents and family. One of these characters is Todd.

Felling of alienation is portrayed in the film by the person of Todd. Todd is a shy and introverted student who is new to Welton Academy. Todd's older brother was a previous valedictorian of Welton and both the school and his parents clearly have high expectations of him. An obedient and studious young man, he tries hard to please his teachers but lacks confidence at the beginning of the film and this prevents him from reaching his potential. However, both Neil and Mr. Keating support and encourage him and he consequently develops considerably as a character. At the end of the film, he is the first student to stand on his desk in support of Mr. Keating. He could be expelled but he prefers to thank Mr. Keating and shows him that he is a really amazing teacher or just, an amazing person.

I learned many things thank to this movie like the pressure results from the parents which could be really strong. I think that parents should help their children to be themselves and do something which will help them to be glad. I can understand that they want the best for their children but, they need to understand that the joy is not only for people who learn much money. My parents are not like that but some of my friends have parents who don’t want that they do other pathway than the scientific one.

This movie helped me to think differently about the alienation. Guys who are secluded because they are not joyful. It is sad. The government should too help children to be themselves and don’t put them down.
